Ashwagandha

🌿 Ashwagandha, an inconspicuous weed and member of the potato family, the plant is a small shrub with yellow flowers that’s native to India and North Africa.
Extracts or powder from the plant’s root or leaves are used to treat a variety of conditions.

This Adaptogenic Herb is still popular in todays Ayurvedic Medicine showing incredible results for Lowering Cortisol and Balancing Thyroid Hormones.
Adaptogens or Adaptogenic substances, compounds, herbs or practices refer to the pharmacological concept whereby administration results in stabilization of physiological processes and promotion of homeostasis, for example, decreased cellular sensitivity to stress.

🌿 Ashwagandha Root has been in use for thousands of years in the Ayurveda, a holistic system of wellness indigenous to the Indian subcontinent.
Ashwagandha is also known as Indian ginseng, winter cherry, and withania somnifera.

In Paganism the root is a main ingredient in certain magical potions. It is especially useful in love potions, but is also associated with improving depression, and ego and brain function.

In India, Ashwagandha is known as the “Strength of the Stallion” since it has traditionally been used to strengthen the immune system after illness.
Ayurvedic practitioners value it highly as an excellent tonic that can be used safely for the same conditions as Ginseng.
It has a long established reputation as rejuvenating tonic and aphrodisiac herb. Numerous ‘herbal viagra’ substitutes include ashwagandha in their formula.

🌿
Many of its health benefits are attributed to the high concentration of withanolides, which have been shown to fight inflammation and tumor growth.
In several studies, ashwagandha has been shown to lower blood sugar levels.

A test-tube study found that it increased insulin secretion and improved insulin sensitivity in muscle cells.
Several human studies have confirmed its ability to reduce blood sugar levels in both healthy people and those with diabetes.

In another study on type 2 diabetes, supplementing with ashwagandha for 30 days lowered fasting blood sugar levels as effectively as an oral diabetes medication.

Studies suggest that it may be beneficial for treating several types of cancer, including breast, lung, colon, brain and ovarian cancer.
Ashwagandha is perhaps best known for its ability to reduce stress.

Several controlled human studies have shown that it can effectively reduce symptoms in people with stress and anxiety disorders.
In a study lasting 6 weeks, 88% of people who took ashwagandha reported a reduction in anxiety.

Ashwagandha supplements have powerful effects on male hormone levels and reproductive health, significantly increasing sperm count and testosterone levels.
The increase in testosterone improves body composition, increases strength and decreases fat.
One study’s purpose was to determine a safe and effective dosage for ashwagandha. Healthy men who took 750–1250 mg per day had gained muscle mass and lost fat after 30 days.

In another study, the ashwagandha group had significantly greater gains in muscle strength and size. It also had more than double the reduction in body fat percentage compared to the placebo group. It also assists in prompt recovery from heavy exercise making it popular with body builders.

🌿
In addition to its dual energizing/calming effect, ashwagandha offers a number of other benefits: it supports a healthy back and joints, promotes healthy functioning of the adrenals, fosters healthy sleep patterns and supports a healthy immune system.
Ashwagandha has a reputation as a herb of longevity and an elixir of life. It is useful for all who wish to strengthen their Chi, the vital energy of the body.

It not only helps to cope with excessive stress but will strengthen the power of endurance. It sharpens mental powers and enhances the memory and will be a valuable aid to those who are studying and a safeguard to those that desire to maintain optimum mental agility into their old age.
Supplementing with ashwagandha may be an easy and effective way to improve your health and quality of life
